Bonsai-Dogroom
Dog Groomer

My aim is to provide your dog with as stress free a groom as possible. At Bonsai-Dogroom your dog will be groomed on a one to one basis: this is often preferable to a busy, noisy salon environment, which can be particularly stressful for anti-social or nervous dogs.

I do not use cage dryers or holding cages, your dog will not be left unattended at any time. Please discuss any issues your dog may have so that the grooming process may be adjusted to suit your dogs needs..

I only groom small to medium dogs, below 18kg in weight. No larger/heavier than the average sized Cockapoo / Cocker Spaniel.

Puppy Introduction

The sooner your puppy experiences the sights, sounds and smells at the groomers the more likely they are to be comfortable with the process. It can be overwhelming for dogs to experience so many new things at once, so to allow your dog to gradually get used to grooming I offer a puppy package.

1st visit is meet and treat where you and your puppy can say hello without your puppy having to get anything done.

2nd visit is a brief brush through (not suitable if the puppy has become matted). You will receive information on how best to care for your dog’s coat and how you can prepare your puppy at home for their first grooming experience. Your pup will be introduced to the grooming tools and handling procedures used whilst you are present to help them feel more confident.

3rd visit is a mini groom.

Bonsai-Dogroom

When dogs are brushed and handled frequently by their owners they are usually more relaxed during their time at the groomers. Brushing your dog at home will prevent matts and knots from developing which in turn helps both owner and dog view this as a pleasant experience: this is preferable to having to deal with the knots and matts once they have developed, and which inevitably leads to your dog not enjoying being brushed and the owner not enjoying brushing. You will be given advice on how you can brush your dog efficiently, what tools would best suit your dog's coat and how best to prevent or deal with grooming related issues.

Qualifications

I have always had pet dogs in my life and began working with animals in my early 20’s. My interest in both plants and animals resulted in me taking a BSc in Biology. I became increasingly interested in learning about canine behaviour after getting my Labrador-German shepherd cross, and enjoyed attending training classes and agility with him so much that it led me to study the Advanced Diploma in Canine Behaviour Management. After gaining this qualification I completed a dog grooming course and have been employed as a professional dog groomer since 2016. During this time I have gained my City and Guilds Level 3 Certificate Introductory to Dog Grooming, my Companion Animal First Aid for Pet Care Professionals, and my OCN level 3 Diploma in Dog Grooming. I enjoy working with dogs very much and fully appreciate how individual each one is and how much they are a part of your family and life..
